Business History

Tatiara Truck & Trailers commenced operation in 1983, providing heavy truck servicing to the community. At that time, the organisation was a partnership and operated from a leased premises in Seventh Street, Bordertown. The business experienced exponential growth shortly after its establishment, employing and up-skilling 4 locals and purchasing the workshop and land it operated out of.

With the trends of trucks getting larger and the declining influence of rail transport the partners decided that there was sufficient work available to develop a specialised business servicing the developing trucking industry.

In 1985 the partners came to the realisation that the site in Seventh Street was going to be inadequate as the business progressed. Insufficient size and inappropriate location instigated the search for an alternative site. After exploring several options, including the possible move to Kaniva in Victoria, land was purchased in the Bordertown Industrial Estate in 1996.

The partnership between John Jenkin & his original partner dissolved in 1988. At this time John elected to continue on the business, forming a partnership with his wife Ann Jenkin. The business operated as a family partnership until September 1993. By this time, operations had reached a size that gave rise to becoming an incorporated entity. The organisation continues to trade as Tatiara Truck & Trailers Pty Ltd.

In 1997 the McLellan Street premises was completed. The foresight of the Jenkin Family enabled the business and site to experience longevity. Tatiara Truck & Trailers Pty Ltd has continued to grow whilst remaining at the McLellan Street site. The 220’ x 100’ workshop includes 6 drive-through bays, including 2 fully equipped service bays and 11 working bays in total. At the time of writing workshop extensions have been undertaken for the purpose of increasing both capacity and efficiency. This extensions will include a further 6 drive through bays. The forecasted completion date for said extensions is October 2012.
