As a result of our growing popularity, we relocated to our current premises in 1997. As a family business, we proudly support the community that has supported our business for so many years. Tatiara Truck & Trailers was founded in 1983 as a partnership to provide heavy truck servicing to the community from leased premises residing in Seventh Street Bordertown. Soon after establishment the business experienced exponential growth enabling them to employ and upskill 4 locals. This also gave liberty to the purchase of the land on which the business operated from.
With the declining influence of the rail transport industry and the trend of on highway transport thriving nationally the partners determined that there was sufficient demand to develop a specialised business servicing the developing trucking industry.
It wasn’t long before the company began to build a solid reputation within the transport industry for their quick, efficient and high-quality services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
It was prevalent to the partners that their current site was inadequate for the increasing demands of their business. Location and size restraints lead the search for an appropriate site that could encompass the growing demands of the business. Over years, several options were explored including the relocation over the border to Kaniva in Victoria.
After 5 strong years the original partnership dissolved in 1988 with John & his wife Ann forming a new business partnership. With the building of a strong reputation the business continued to expand and 1993 gave rise to the partnership becoming the incorporated entity, Tatiara Truck & Trailers Pty Ltd as it is known today.
In 1996 the relocation of the business was finalised with land being purchased on the industrial estate in Bordertown. Located on the main routes between Adelaide – Melbourne and Mt Gambier – Adelaide we are well placed geographically and are the only business supplying these services in the region. Our closest competitors being located at Mt Gambier, Horsham & Adelaide gives us great opportunity to support the surrounding areas.
Around this time Tatiara Truck & Trailers Pty Ltd began supporting the certificate 1 program known at VET in conjunction with local schools & MTA. The program is well attended with student participation increasing annually, with many students securing apprenticeships through the program.
1997 saw the completion of the McLellan Road premises with a 220’ x 100’ workshop consisting of 6 drive-through bays, including 2 fully equipped service bays. The foresight of the Jenkin family with the purchase of the land ensures the capacity for future growth, expansion, and longevity.
Bordertown is home to a significant transport centre with fleets of up to 25 amongst the 8 local trucking companies with additional small businesses and innumerable operators within the agricultural sector. The region also boasts significant freight activity that is generated from the local meatworks and grain exports in the area.
With the business continuing to grow the original Seventh Street workshop was dismantled and re-erected and extended as storage at the McLellan road premises in 2001.
As the industry continued to strengthen, Tatiara Truck & Trailers Pty Ltd continued to have insight into new strategies to build on the offerings they had for their customers. In 2004 an additional 2 bays were erected on the northern end of the workshop to incorporate specialised equipment for testing the efficiency of equipment braking systems. Further to this, play-testing equipment was also installed into the 2 drive-through service bays.
Tatiara Truck & Trailers Pty Ltd continues to build its solid reputation within the transport industry for their can-do attitude, speedy and efficient services. With a customer base spanning the country is a testament to the quality service & dedication to exceeding customer expectations.
The continued success and growth of the company is apparent in the commitment that management has towards their employees. The provision of safe work practices and equipment is at the forefront or ensuring the safety of our team and our customers.
Learning is fundamental to the growth of our employees and our business. To assist in offering more content without the travel Tatiara Truck & Trailers installed a purpose-built training facility in 2006. This not only enables the upskilling of employees on site by bringing in qualified trainers but has also given rise to further the offerings and ongoing collaboration with the local schools & the MTA for the Certificate 1 program.
With roadside breakdowns and the safety of employees a custom low-loader was designed and built. This now enables Tatiara Truck & Trailers Pty Ltd the ability to relocate stranded vehicles to the workshop where they can be worked on more efficiently and safely.
As a family business, Jaime and Dylan have always been a part of the company, with them becoming official shareholders alongside their parents, John & Ann in 2011.
With the growing trend of online sales, Tatiara Truck & Trailers Pty Ltd implemented their first online store through eBay in 2012. This has proven to be of benefit to many customers, with the purchase of goods being made around the clock. This platform continues to grow as we continually add more products available for the convenience of our customers.
In 2012 purchase of an additional block adjacent to the McLellan Road premises was purchased and a major expansion was commenced. The addition of 6 workshop bays with state-of-the-art wheel aligning pits enabled the relocation of equipment creating specialised areas within the workshop. With this increase in capacity, the efficiency of providing our services has been further improved.
Tatiara Truck & Trailers Pty Ltd work in conjunction with the Department for transport to enable the removal of spot defects on site. In addition to this, Tatiara Truck & Trailers Pty Ltd is a Licenced Vehicle Testing station for Vic roadworthy certificates.
With staff numbers growing and storage once again becoming somewhat restrictive the decision was made to lease land and shedding on an allotment behind the current premises which was later purchased in 2018. In 2019 an additional bay was built on the northern end of the workshop to provide space for in impending office & parts warehouse expansion.
The original washdown bay was enclosed as part of the 2012 expansion and had become restrictive in size and location. To rectify this, a new wash bay was constructed in 2019 giving amble space to clean 2 b-double units side by side.
2020 has seen the much anticipated and well overdue office and parts warehouse upgrade. With no room for additional office staff and overflowing shelves the major task of designing the new purpose-built area with showroom and provision for growth was undertaken.
To enable the use of the existing office during construction the build was divided into 2 stages with the parts warehouse commenced as stage 1. This enabled business to continue as normal with the entire office & parts storage being relocated into temporary spaces at completion of stage 1 in mid-2020.
Demolition of the original office took place, and the commencement of stage 2 was undertaken, with construction set to be completed in early 2021
